New Hampshire Boat Bill of Sale Template

Use a New Hampshire Boat Bill of Sale to record the sale of a boat and protect the buyer and the seller.

Published March 27, 2023

Whenever a boat is transferred from one person to another in New Hampshire, a document called a New Hampshire boat bill of sale is required. In addition to offering a thorough description of the boat, it will include other details, including the names of the buyer and the seller. The final sales price will be listed on the bill of sale, as will the date the transaction happened and the circumstances under which things were executed. This document is required in New Hampshire before the ownership of any boat can be transferred.

New Hampshire Boat Bill of Sale Requirements

Other essential information is required to be included on a New Hampshire boat bill of sale, too. This includes the length of the boat (measured from bow to stern), the type of material used in its construction, the type of propulsion system it has, the type of fuel it uses, and more. Information about the number of engines and the manufacture year is also necessary. Both the buyer and seller must sign the boat bill of sale.

Registering a Boat (After Purchasing)

Any boat that is either motorized (meaning that it is propelled by anything other than human force) or is longer than 12 feet (measured from bow to stern) must be registered with the state. Likewise, all boat registrations expire on December 31 each year. This is true regardless of when the boat was initially registered.

Where to Register

Boat owners in New Hampshire have a few different options regarding proper registration. They can visit an authorized boat agent in their area to submit the appropriate paperwork (see below). They can also submit it all to a New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles drop box, or they can send it via the mail to the Concord, New Hampshire, DMV office.

Documents Needed to Obtain Title Registration

  • A properly completed New Hampshire boat bill of sale.
  • A fully completed New Hampshire boat registration application.
  • Proof of payment for all applicable registration fees.
  • If the boat is homemade, additional verification pertaining to vessel identification will be needed.

Fees

The amount of money you will pay in fees to register your boat in New Hampshire will vary depending on its length.

  • If the boat is 16 feet or less (measured from bow to stern), the annual registration fee is $24.00.
  • If the boat is 16.1 feet to 21 feet, the fee is $34.00.
  • If the boat is 45 feet or longer, the fee is $92.00.
  • All registrations must also pay an additional $9.50 fee for lake restoration and preservation, and a $1.00 fee for Fish and Game Department search and rescue funding.
  • Duplicate registration cards can also be purchased for an additional $15.00 fee.

Exemptions (If Applicable)

  • While all boats are required to be registered in the state of New Hampshire, they are among the list of vehicles that are not required to be titled.
