A Delaware bill of sale is a legal document used to record the sale and transfer ownership of personal property between a seller and a buyer in the state. It commonly includes detailed information about the item being sold, the full names and contact information of both parties, the agreed-upon purchase price, and the date the transaction occurs.
How to Register a Vehicle in Delaware
You’ll need to visit your local Delaware DMV office in person. Be sure to bring the bill of sale along with all the required documentation.

Use a vehicle bill of sale form to buy or sell a motor vehicle.

Requirements
A bill of sale is typically not required for most vehicle sales in Delaware. However, if the title is missing, you must provide a bill of sale for the vehicle inspection, which is necessary for titling.
Language and Copy Requirements
- Language: The DMV only accepts bills of sale in English and does not provide translators, so non-English speakers may need to arrange for an interpreter. While the buyer and seller can agree on a bill of sale in another language, any copy submitted to the state must be in English.
- Number of Copies: It is recommended that both parties keep a copy of the bill of sale for their personal records in addition to the one submitted to the DMV.
