A Maine motor vehicle bill of sale is a document used to transfer the ownership of a vehicle from one party to another. Sellers can use it to prove that the transaction took place, and buyers need it to register the vehicle with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).
To make the document legally valid and enforceable, the buyer, the seller, and any lienholder must sign it.
Maine Vehicle Registration
Buyers are required to register their vehicles with the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) as soon as they purchase them. New residents must register their current vehicle within 30 days of moving to Maine.
Once the initial registration is complete, owners must renew it once a year via the Rapid Renewal Service.
