A California motor vehicle power of attorney (Form REG-260) allows a vehicle owner (the principal) to designate an agent or attorney-in-fact. This authorized representative gains the power to handle various motor vehicle-related transactions on behalf of the principal. Whether dealing with vehicle registration or transferring title, the form simplifies processes, especially when the principal is unable to attend to these tasks personally.
The form must contain information about the vehicle, including its VIN, year, make, model, and license plate number. It includes two editable copies, one for submission and another for the owner’s records. The Department of Motor Vehicles accepts photocopies or fax copies.
