Vermont lease termination letters let a landlord or tenant terminate a short-term tenancy. The state has two different letter types: a 60-day notice and a 90-day notice. The 60-day notice is for tenants who’ve resided at a property for less than two years. Tenants who’ve resided at a property for more than two years receive more required notice, as the state demands 90 days’ notice.
Whether the landlord or tenant is issuing a 60- or 90-day notice, they don’t have to provide a specific reason. They only need to give the state-mandated notice depending on the occupancy length.
Governing Law: 9 V.S.A. § 4467(c)(1)(A) for 60-day notices; 9 V.S.A § 4467(c)(1)(B) for 90-day notices.
