What is a Wyoming Motorcycle Bill of Sale?

A Wyoming Motorcycle Bill of Sale form records the motorcycle sale and the change in ownership from the seller to the buyer.

A bill of sale form should provide details about the buyer and seller, motorcycle, purchase price, and date of sale.

The buyer and seller must sign the bill of sale, which must occur in the presence of a notary public in some counties.

Is a Motorcycle Bill of Sale Form Required in Wyoming?

Wyoming requires a motorcycle bill of sale for transactions between private parties.

Each county in Wyoming handles its title and registration, so the specific requirements may vary from county to county.

Do You Need a Bill of Sale To Register a Motorcycle in Wyoming?

Registrations occur through the local county treasurer office in the county where you reside.

Each county has its requirements, but you will likely need a bill of sale or the dealer’s invoice.

Before titling and registering your motorcycle, you should check your county’s requirements.

How Do I Transfer Ownership of a Motorcycle in Wyoming?

In Wyoming, the county clerk office of each county handles titling for newly transferred motorcycles.

You must confirm with your county clerk office which documents are required.

These are general instructions for documents typically needed to transfer a motorcycle in Wyoming.

Bring these documents to the county clerk office:

  • Original Wyoming certificate of title, signed by the seller and notarized, with an odometer disclosure
  • Title Application and VIN inspection Form (MV-300A)
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement (if not included on the certificate of title)
  • Bill of Sale, signed and  notarized (if purchased from an individual)
  • Dealer’s purchase invoice and Sales/Use tax form (if purchased from dealer)
  • Fees (check with the county for appropriate fees)

Some counties may require financing documents or proof of insurance.

Buyers should check their county clerk’s office’s website carefully before submitting any documents for a title.

Retitled vehicles must have a VIN inspection.

You cannot register a motorcycle without a title. You may apply for temporary registration in your county if you need to use your motorcycle before receiving the title.

Temporary registration is good for 60 days. Once you have received your new title, you should take the title, the dealer’s invoice or bill of sale, and fees to the county treasurer’s office for registration.

Motorcycle Title Transfer With a Bill of Sale Only

You cannot transfer title with only a bill of sale in Wyoming.

You need a notarized bill of sale or dealer invoice and other documents to properly transfer the title.

Does a Wyoming Motorcycle Bill of Sale Need To Be Notarized?

Yes. The bill of sale and certificate of title must be notarized when used to transfer the title.

Buying and Selling a Motorcycle in Wyoming

Prepare Your Motorcycle for Sale

Make sure your motorcycle is mechanically sound, clean, and detailed. Even an “as-is” motorcycle should be ready for transfer to the new buyer.

Remove any aftermarket accessories unless included in the sale.

Buyers should take the motorcycle to a mechanic before paying for their new bike. “As-is” or used sales are generally considered final unless there is evidence of fraud.

Determine the Value of Your Motorcycle

Check price guides like Kelley Blue Book or JD Power and review local sales listings before posting your motorcycle for sale.

You should know your motorcycle’s value and what local buyers are paying.

Buyers should know what they are willing to pay and what their desired model is worth.

A vintage Harley is expensive, and a legitimate owner may not negotiate the price.

Advertise Your Motorcycle

Consider online marketplaces, newspapers, and forums for local sales. Motorcycle shops or community centers may allow you to post flyers or ads.

Vintage or specialty bikes have specialty markets, so you may want a broker to sell for you.

If you don’t want to haggle, your ad should say “firm price” or “fixed price.” “Best offer” or “OBO” may help sell the bike quickly.

Meet With the Potential Buyer

Negotiations for price and transfer date should occur publicly and during the day. Only exchange money and the motorcycle the first time you meet the buyer if you know one another.

Buyers should request a test drive in an enclosed space or parking lot. If not, try to have a mechanic look at the motorcycle as soon as possible after the sale.

Ask to see the title and ensure no liens are on the bike.

How To Write a Motorcycle Bill of Sale in Wyoming (What To Include)

A Wyoming motorcycle bill of sale must include all pertinent information about the motorcycle, buyer and seller, sale date, and purchase amount.

The Wyoming bill of sale must be notarized.
