Requirements
You must register a vehicle with the title in your name and notify Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services of a title change within 30 days of purchase.
If you bought the vehicle privately, submit the registration documents yourself; dealerships typically handle this for purchased vehicles. Registrations need to be renewed every 2 or 4 years, depending on the vehicle and fees. Renewals can be done online.
Language & Copy Requirements
- Language: Oregon has no language requirements for a bill of sale, but legal documents are only in English. Use a state-certified interpreter for official translations. The Oregon Judicial Department’s Interpreter Roster lists certified translators.
- Copies: For motor vehicle and watercraft transactions, three copies of the bill of sale are required: one for the titling agency and one for each party. For other sales, two copies are needed: one for the buyer and one for the seller.
